The English Education and Moral Education Policy in China

This chapter focuses on the English education and moral education policy in China. The moral education of contemporary college students has always been a weak part. In the previous education, knowledge, namely intellectual education, was put in the supreme position while the education of students’ ideological, political, and moral qualities was ignored, which led to the training of some college students not meeting the requirements of socialist construction talents. Therefore, to improve moral education in colleges and universities, we should give full play to the role of political theory courses as the main channel of systematic ideological and moral quality education for students, and it has also become necessary for teachers of various subjects to fully tap the potential moral education factors in subject textbooks while imparting knowledge and cultivating students. Today, there are more and more incidents of youth violence and the phenomenon of not seeking self-improvement. Schools, as the cradle of students’ growth, and teachers, as the inspirators of students’ outlook on life, all should take their responsibilities. The particularity of English teaching in colleges and universities determines the feasibility and necessity of the infiltration of moral education in the process of English courses. English teachers should fully explore the connotation of teaching materials in the teaching process, achieve the combination of teaching discipline and healthy ideological content, and actively seek ways to penetrate moral education for students, to achieve both “teaching” and “educating”.
