Maritime safety has been and remains a prerequisite for ensuring the sustainable development of seagoing safety. At Vietnam’s largest and most important seaports, the quality of pilotage services is a top concern for regulatory bodies, ship owners, and port enterprises. To ensure the quality of pilotage services, in addition to human resources, the tools and equipment that support pilots during ship navigation play a crucial role in safety. This paper collects statistics and analyzes the current status of the use of Portable Pilot Units (PPUs) by maritime pilots and proposes solutions for managing and guidance on the use of PPUs at Vietnamese seaports.
