Faced with the ever-changing natural environment, plants have developed intricate response mechanisms and regulatory networks to adapt, as they are stationary. Phytohormones, categorized as a diverse group of small and multi-functional signaling molecules, play a crucial role in responding to a range of stresses, including abiotic stresses like salinity, temperature, drought, waterlogging, heavy metals, and nutrient deficiency, as well as biotic stresses such as pests and diseases. Moreover, apart from the well-known stress-responsive phytohormones such as abscisic acid (ABA), salicylic acid (SA), jasmonic acid (JA) and ethylene (ET), an increasing number of studies have indicated that certain growth and development-related phytohormones, including brassinosteroids, strigolactones, auxins, gibberellins, cytokinins, and others, also perform significant roles in stress response and regulation. This chapter aims to comprehensively analyze the involvement of various phytohormones in responding to stress conditions. It provides an in-depth overview of the interactions between ET and JA, ABA and other phytohormones, and cross-regulation between different phytohormones.
