Ethical Implications of Using Assistive Writing Tools in the Academe: A Literature Review
摘要
This study synthesizes the usability, limitations, and ethical implications of AI-powered assistive writing tools in academia. The researchers gathered various reviews of related literature to synthesize, evaluate, and analyze the results that correspond with previous studies. The paper demonstrates that AI-assistive writing tools contribute to education by enhancing students’ writing abilities, and it is beneficial for tasks like paraphrasing, grammar checking, and summarization. These tools are essential to solving difficulties, avoiding plagiarism, and preserving critical thinking abilities. The drawbacks of AI tools that could impact students’ writing abilities and critical thinking were identified, such as misleading feedback and neglecting the development of creative thinking skills. The ethical implications suggest that utilizing AI-assistive writing tools to balance technology is a good idea because they merely offer aid rather than producing the text entirely. To mitigate the challenges posed by AI writing tools, raising awareness and ensuring that students understand these tools’ limitations and ethical implications is crucial. Moreover, consistently monitoring these tools is imperative to enhance students’ writing accuracy and reliability. By fostering critical thinking skills and writing abilities, academics can leverage AI tools to enhance individual strengths while upholding academic integrity.
