Preliminaries of Fractional Derivatives

The fractional differential operators have at least sixteen different kinds of definitions, and not all of them are equivalent. This chapter presents the numerical approximations of the most frequently used fractional derivatives, including the Grünwald Letnikov derivative, the Riemann Liouville derivative and the Caputo derivative and list the operator properties relevant in the modelling of anomalous diffusion.
