Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) find exclusive usage in many industrial applications such as automation and robotics, domestic appliances, electric/hybrid vehicles, wind power generation, and electric aircraft technologies. PMSM are classically used for high-performance and high-efficiency motor drives. High-performance motor control is characterized by smooth rotation over the entire speed range of the motor, full torque control at zero speed, fast acceleration and deceleration, high torque to power ratio, low maintenance, and high efficiency. This paper provides an extensive review of the various literature which provide an insight of the performance of IPMSM (interior permanent magnet synchronous motor) with various control topologies, proofs and mathematical model of the IPMSM Motor. It also states about the suitability of the respective algorithms for explicit applications and their hardware implementation through state-of-the-art controllers for their efficient control. Each control strategy and its feasibility is discussed at length and the appropriate one is recommended.
