Renewable Energy in Electric Vehicle Charging: Comprehensive Analysis via Bibliometric and Thematic Analyses

This study aims to conduct a bibliometric and thematic examination of the integration of EV charging systems with renewable energy sources (RESs). Data analysis techniques such as thematic clustering, performance analysis, and bibliometric analysis were utilized to review 1044 publications from the Scopus database. This study examined several things, including theme mapping, top 10 nations, top 10 authors, co-occurrence of keywords, essential institutions, and the trends of scientific production of publications indexed in the Scopus database from 2008 to 2024. The study employed VoS viewer as a tool for performance analysis and thematic clustering. A growing publication trend was observed using bibliometric and thematic analysis, emphasizing China’s dominance in publications, followed by India and the USA. Leading the pack with 48 publications is North China Electric Power University, followed by Tsinghua University (30 articles) and RWTH Aachen University (25 articles). Applied Energy, Energies, and Energy are some of the best journals. Wang and Li are two notable authors who rate highly. Seven major themes are identified through thematic analysis: grid interaction, REI, EV charging, market environment, technical influence, and V2G connectivity. We provide comparable solutions for each of the five issue areas we have identified: intermittent RE, resource-demand mismatch, grid integration complexity, technological compatibility, and policy/regulatory impediments. There is a discussion of the policy implications for promoting RES incorporation into EV charging systems. It gives academic direction and information on the status of the study and the various factors impacting the body of literature on the integration of EV charging systems with RESs. It also outlines possible directions for further research in this area.
