Sales and Purchases of Islands Between States and International Law

Purchase is one of the modes for States to acquire territorial title, although in modern times the State practice is rare. In this chapter, concrete cases of purchase of islands including the Virgin Islands and Easter Islands are considered, and some observations are made from the point of international law.
