In the changing geopolitical landscape, it’s imperative that nations diversify their ‘energy mix’ with emphasis on self-reliance through sustainable and renewable energy. Photo Voltaic (PV) systems are capable of producing electricity through the sunlight gathered by solar panels. These play a crucial role in remote locations where people cannot get power from grids. The energy produced may be stored in batteries or directly used. The main component in a PV system is the solar panel. Selecting an appropriate solar panel is a complicated task as it involves evaluation of several available options on the basis of different criteria. The selection criteria are categorized into electrical, mechanical and economic. These criteria may sometimes be conflicting in nature, thus making the decision making process more complex. Therefore, in this paper, a multi-criteria decision making method is used to solve solar panel selection problem. In this hybrid approach, a method based on the removal effects of criteria (MEREC) is used for setting criteria weights, while an alternative ranking order method accounting for two-step normalization (AROMAN) is used for determining the best solar panel alternative for PV system.

摘要
