Ali, Agha Shahid (1949–2001)
摘要
Agha Shahid Ali was born in 1949 in New Delhi to Agha Ashraf Ali, a famous educationist from Kashmir, and Sufia Begum, an accomplished woman from Uttar Pradesh. Ali spent his early days in Kashmir, where his parents always fostered an open and progressive environment at home. From childhood, he was exposed to various cultures (Western, Hindu, and Muslim) and works of literature (English, Kashmiri, Persian, and Urdu). This rich cultural heritage helped him grow both as a poet and a human being. When, in 1960, his father moved to America with his family to do his Ph.D. at Ball State Teachers’ College, Muncie, Indiana, Ali attended the school in Muncie for 3 years along with his siblings. Later, he studied B.A. at the University of Kashmir and M.A. at the University of Delhi and then moved to Pennsylvania State University for his Ph.D.
