Christopher Cyrill was born in Melbourne, Australia, to immigrant Indian parents. Before becoming a full-time writer, he was educated at the Christian Brothers College and Deakin University, Melbourne. He is the author of two novels, The Ganges and its Tributaries (1993) and Hymns for the Drowning (1999). He has also published numerous short stories and articles and written several broadcasted radio plays. In 2002, he was appointed the fiction editor of the Australian literary magazine Heat and fiction advisor to Giramondo Publishing, an independent, Australian, university-based literary publisher. He has taught creative writing at several universities in Sydney, Macquarie, Newcastle, Wollongong, and Australian Catholic University. He also worked for the Australia Council for the Arts Literature Board, and for a short period, in 2008, he was the Director of the NSW Writers’ Centre. In 1994, he won the Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarship and was one of the recipients of the Australia Council Literature Board Grant in 2009. As a part of his doctoral thesis in creative arts (2019), conducted at the University of Sydney, Cyrill completed a novel titled Quaternion, which will be the volume one of his proposed trilogy, Crown and Anchor. Currently, he runs his own writing academy to mentor writers.
