Cowasjee, Saros (1931–2019)

A creative writer, well-known critic, and a teacher of English literature, Saros Dara Cowasjee was born to Dara and Meher (Bharucha) Cowasjee in Secunderabad, India, on July 12, 1931. He was educated at St. John’s College, Agra (B.A., 1951), Agra University (M.A., 1955), and University of Leeds (Ph.D., 1960). Before visiting England, he had a short stint (1955–1957) as a lecturer in English at Agra College and as assistant editor of the Times of India (1961–1963). Cowasjee joined the University of Saskatchewan, Regina Campus (forerunner of the University of Regina), as an instructor in 1963 and was elevated to the position of Professor in 1971. He retired from the University in 1995 and was then appointed Professor Emeritus.
