Roshani Chokshi was born in 1991 in Missouri, USA, to a Gujarati father and a Filipina mother. She grew up speaking neither Gujarati nor Tagalog (“From Folklore to Fantasy” n.p.) but on a diet of stories from Hindu mythology from her paternal grandmother and Filipino folklore from her mother. She started as a law student, but shifted to a full-time writing career in 2015, as a middle-grade and young adult fantasy author.
