Chatterjee, Debjani (1952–)

Debjani Chatterjee is a British-Indian poet, writer, and storyteller. She was born on November 21, 1952, in Delhi. Her father’s diplomatic profession made her to move to different countries, which promoted her mental growth amidst different cultures and languages. Her schooling occurred in Delhi, Dhaka, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Egypt, and Morocco. She moved to Cairo (1968) and graduated in English Literature (Major) and Theatre Studies (Minor) from American University (1972). She earned her master’s in English and American Literature from the University of Kent, Canterbury (1973), and her Ph.D. on “The Image of Gandhi in the Indo-Anglian Novel” from the University of Lancaster (1977). She received a PGCE qualification in English, Drama, and Religious Education (1981) and an honorary doctorate for her contribution to literature, arts, and community (2002) from Sheffield Hallam University.
