Preti Taneja, a British author, screenwriter, educator, human rights reporter, and esteemed fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, has made significant contributions to the literary world. She was born in England to parents of Indian descent. Meera Taneja, her mother, was a trailblazing Indian culinary author and food innovator who ventured into Britain without any acquaintances and, against all odds, managed to publish a total of eight books. Taneja undertook her academic pursuits in theology, religion, and philosophy of religion, with a specialization in Sanskrit, at St. John’s College, University of Cambridge, during the years 1996 and 1999. In 2000, she obtained a PGDip in Print Journalism from City University. In addition to this, she proficiently pursued a part-time MA in creative writing from the Royal Holloway University of London. In 2010, she embarked on an arduous journey to obtain a PhD in creative writing. From 2014 to 2016, she received a postdoctoral fellowship focused on global Shakespeare. After that, from 2016 to 2019, she received a Leverhulme Early Career Research fellowship at QMUL/Warwick University. At present, she holds the position of professor of world literature and creative writing at Newcastle University.
