Manil Suri was born in Mumbai (earlier Bombay), India, in July 1959 and moved to the USA in August 1979 for higher studies. An alumnus of the University of Bombay and Carnegie Mellon University, Suri is a Distinguished Professor of Mathematics at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. As a novelist, he is primarily known for three works set in the South Asian context: The Death of Vishnu: A Novel (2001), The Age of Shiva: A Novel (2008), and The City of Devi: A Novel (2013). Suri has also authored a non-fiction work The Big Bang of Numbers: How to Build the Universe Using Only Math (2022).
