Sons Must Die by Uma Parameswaran
摘要
Sons Must Die is a play written by the Canadian writer Uma Parameswaran in 1962, when she lived in India. It was published in 1998 as part of the South Asian Canadian Literature Series. The play is based on the India-Pakistan war of 1947 and is set in Kashmir—the land over which India and Pakistan continue to fight. As Anjana Trivedi says, “The plot structure, technique, and style of the play depict Parameswaran’s interest in Greek tragedies,” as the play hardly has any plot. While there are quite a few characters, there is little character development. The characters have limited opportunities to reveal themselves.
