Indra Sinha was born in Colaba, Maharashtra, to Bhagvati Prasad, who was an Indian Naval officer, and Irene Elizabeth Phare, an English writer, who wrote under the pseudonym Rani Sinha. After his early education in India, Sinha moved to England with his family in 1967 and studied English Literature at Pembroke College, Cambridge. After failing to convince the BBC to let him make documentaries, he worked as an advertising copywriter with Ogilvy & Mather, London, and from 1984, with Collett Dickenson Pearce & Partners. The literary oeuvre of Sinha encompasses translations, memoirs, and fiction. The winner of the 2008 Commonwealth Writer’s Prize for Europe and South Asia, Indra Sinha now lives with his family in southern France.
