Shraya, Vivek (1981–)
摘要
Vivek Shraya was born in Edmonton in 1981 and is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Calgary, Alberta. Her multi-hyphenated personality is limited not only to her identity but also to her work and career. This multi-faceted artist has stirred the world of art and literature with her revolutionary ideas about self-expression, identity, and inclusivity. A self-proclaimed trans-woman, Shraya breaks all conventional boundaries of gender, color, race, and themes in her stride, and her works are psychedelic in range and approach, as much as her cover pages are. Her entire body of works covers a wide range of genres and forms—books, audiobooks, prose, songs, poems, paintings, graphics, and stage. She delves into several fields, concomitantly, as a writer, musician, model, visual artist, theatre actor, movie star, filmmaker, and very recently, a mentor and a publisher. Nevertheless, all her experiments are rooted in her aspirations for self-exploration and self-expression. Shraya has sharp marketing skills, as projected in the titles and covers of her books. Some of her startling prose titles are I’m Afraid of Men (2018), Even This Page Is White (2016), God Loves Hair (2010), How to Fail as a Popstar (2021), and Next Time There’s a Pandemic (2022).
