Ravinder Randhawa is a British Asian author. She was born in India in 1952 to Sikh parents. Her father Pakhar Singh Randhawa was a farmer, and her mother Karan Kaur was a housewife. Her father came to England in search of employment and became a factory worker. She and her mother joined him in 1959. The family then moved from Gravesend to Leamington Spa, where, according to Bruce King, Randhawa was “for a time the only Indian girl” (2). Randhawa studied at London Polytechnic, worked for some time as an English teacher, and then also worked as a civil servant. Apart from being a writer, she is the founder of Asian Women Writers’ Collective, an organization that she set up for British Asian Women Writers. She has also been actively involved in philanthropic activities that include establishing refugees and raising her voice against racism by involving herself in antiracial campaigns. Apart from doing her own writing, she also helped in the preparation of an anthology Flaming Spirit, which contains the writings of several other diasporic writers.
