Siddhartha Mukherjee, an Indian American physician, scientist, writer, and recipient of the fourth highest civilian award of India, the Padma Shri, was born on July 21, 1970. He attended St. Columba’s School for his early education before achieving a bachelor’s degree in biology from Stanford University, a DPhil in Immunology from the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, and an MD (Doctor of Medicine) from Harvard Medical School. Winner of the 2011 Pulitzer Prize and Guardian First Book Award (2011), he is widely known for his contributions to cancer research.
