Ved Parkash Mehta was born on Mar 21, 1934, in Lahore, in the then undivided British India. He was a writer and journalist par excellence who is largely credited for introducing the turbulent history of pre-Partition British India to the West, particularly to a niche American audience, using the intimate lenses of his autobiographical mode of rendition. An active contributor and staff writer for The New Yorker for more than three decades, much of his collective oeuvre and magnum opus began as articles on the pages of The New Yorker. It would not be a misnomer to claim that Mehta functioned as a critical bridge between Indian philosophical thought and Western critical understanding.
