Acculturation, as a process of cultural blending, occurs when two communities interact in a manner that results in increased similarities to one or both cultures. Redfield et al. (1936) formulated it as comprehending “those phenomena which result when groups of individuals having different cultures come into continuous first-hand contact, with subsequent changes in the original culture patterns of either or both groups” (149). In diaspora studies, acculturation holds paramount importance in analyzing one’s cultural identity and shows how an individual or community integrates into the host country’s culture while maintaining their own culture and identity.
