Born in Ranchi, Tabish Khair is one of the most prolific contemporary Indian English writers who has published poetry, fiction, travel writing, and academic studies. Currently an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the School of Communication and Culture, University of Aarhus in Denmark, Khair grew up in Gaya, a small town in Bihar. He earned his BA in history, sociology, and English from Gaya College and his MA in English from Magadh University. Khair worked as a district reporter for The Times of India (Patna Edition) while still in college and then moved to its Delhi office. In 1996, he went to Copenhagen, Denmark, and received a PhD in English, published later as Babu Fictions: Alienation in Indian English Novels (Oxford, 2001).
