Born in 1949 in Bombay (now Mumbai), Arjun Appadurai is a renowned academic, anthropologist, and an established globalization studies scholar. He graduated from Elphinstone College, Bombay, and did his master’s and PhD (Anthropology) at the University of Chicago in 1976, where he later taught as a professor. Before superannuating in 2021, Appadurai taught at the New York University Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development as a Goddard Professor in Media, Culture, and Communication. He lives in Berlin and teaches remotely at the Bard Graduate Center as a Max Weber Global Professor.
