Madhur Jaffrey is an Indian-British-American food writer and actress born and raised in India. She has lived most of her life in the United Kingdom and the United States. Her career as a cookbook author was established with the 1973 publication of An Invitation to Indian Cooking, and she is credited with spreading the versatility of Indian cuisine to a broader audience in the USA and the UK through her 1982 show, “Madhur Jaffery’s Indian Cookery,” on the BBC. Her appearances in films by Merchant Ivory and her job as a culinary show host for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) have contributed to her increasing fame in film and television.
