Tanika Gupta was born in London the year after her parents arrived as migrants from Calcutta. She recalls one of her earliest memories of performing dance dramas by Rabindranath Tagore with her parent’s cultural group, “The Tagoreans,” across the European continent. After graduating from Oxford University, Gupta worked as a community worker in an Asian women’s refuge for several years. She has been writing theater since the early 1990s, and for some time, she also worked as a script reader for BBC TV’s “Black Screen.” She established herself as a professional writer in 1996 and has played her role successfully since then. She has collaborated extensively in television, radio, and film industry and with contemporary writers and playwrights in the UK and internationally.
