Sohrab Homi Fracis is the first Asian and the only South Asian author to win the Iowa Short Fiction Award for his debut collection Ticket to Minto: Stories of India and America (2003). South Asian Literary Association (SALA) awarded him the Distinguished Achievement Award for winning this coveted prize. Born and brought up in Mumbai, Sohrab obtained a B. Tech. degree in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (West Bengal), in 1981, and a master’s degree in civil engineering at the University of Delaware, Newark, United States, in 1983. His academic qualifications in the technological field won him high-profile jobs in Fortune 100 companies. After working as a system analyst for many years in reputed firms, he left his technical job to pursue his dreams in fiction writing. His keen interest in literature took him to the University of North Florida, where he studied MA in English and Creative Writing.
