G.S. Sarat Chandra (1935–2000) is an Indian American author, who has written poetry and fiction. His work delves into the intricate emotions and experiences of Indian/American immigrants, who must struggle with the challenges of navigating multiple cultural identities. Within the realm of modernist literature, Chandra’s poetry stands out for its exploration of fragmented selves, alienation, anxiety, and dislocation, which encapsulate the complexities of the human condition in the modern era. His collection of poems, Family of Mirrors (1993), holds a special place in his literary repertoire as it is dedicated to his son and pays homage to Isaac Bashevis Singer, an immigrant writer renowned for his compositions in Yiddish and English. Several of the poems in this collection were previously published in poetry journals across North America.
