A Way Forward in NbS in Mangrove-Mud Coast Protection in VMD
摘要
This chapter provides a critical overview of the current situation regarding the sustainable management and use of the VMD coast for socio-economic development, as well as the practical experiences of local communities and relevant stakeholders in the region. As a new approach to NbS for the sustainable management and use of the VMD coast, this chapter emphasizes the importance of local communities in developing NbS to control erosion along the coast, in both policy and practice. Local communities should play a central role in coastal erosion control, rather than merely providing labour. Furthermore, coordination between government agencies, scientists and local communities should be established to facilitate their contributions. In practice, existing shoreline and offshore measures should be revised to take the natural conditions of designated erosion control areas into account more effectively. Furthermore, natural processes including rivers and riverine areas, and intertidal mudflats must be protected and incorporated into coastal protection measures. Adequate implementation of these recommendations will effectively protect the VMD coast and promote its sustainable management and use for socio-economic development in the future.
