With the development of modern warfare forms, intelligence collection and reconnaissance tasks have significant importance on the battlefield. In order to improve the accuracy and efficiency of intelligence collection, the US military has actively researched and applied a new type of unmanned aerial vehicle - the robotic bird. This type of drone imitates bird flight and has good concealment and adaptability. This article provides a detailed introduction to the research and application of robotic birds by the US military. Machine birds, as a type of unmanned aerial vehicle that mimics bird flight, have the advantages of small size, light weight, and low noise. They are mainly used for reconnaissance, surveillance, and intelligence collection. This article comprehensively elaborates on the research background, development status, key technologies, application areas, and challenges of the US military robotic bird.
