Collagen Composites in Tissue Engineering

The field of tissue engineering has employed collagen-based materials for various biomedical applications. Collagen, an abundant and intrinsic protein of human tissues, plays a pivotal role in the regeneration of various tissue types, such as bone, cartilage, and skin. The expanding utility of collagen-based materials has led to the development of collagen composites for the bioengineering of human tissues. This book chapter focuses on collagen composites and their synthesis protocols, and sheds light on the deployment of collagen composites for the reconstruction of adipose, bone, cardiac, cartilage, nervous, skin, and tendon tissues. Furthermore, this book chapter also highlights the recent advancements of collagen composites for tissue regeneration and discusses the futuristic views of the current collagen-based composites.
