Conclusion: Birds of a Feather, Discriminate Together

The preceding chapters have explored caste hierarchies through the processes of state formation, genealogical manipulation, masculine honor and violence, elite public spheres, and discrimination. Rather than being a static religious order, caste emerged from the dynamics of state formation, social disruptions, economic transformations, and was deeply affected by modernity. This monograph has not only focused on caste as a mode of discrimination in society, but rather on its various aspects of economics, consumption, intersections with gender, and its global manifestations in different cultures.
