Emerging Infectious Disease
摘要
Emerging infectious diseases (EIDs) are infectious diseases that are newly found and known in the communities or have existed but significantly increased in incidence of diseases or rapidly spread in a wide range. Both emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases are becoming a global problem. Majorly, EIDs are zoonotic diseases, but there are several EIDs that can be transmitted to humans through food, air, water, and vectors. At least, there are two major factors contributing to the spread of EIDs, including socioeconomic factors and environmental factors. Socioeconomic factors include changing global demography and population, migration, changing human behavior, poor sanitation, and changing health systems. Environmental factors that contribute to the EIDs in Asia include global climate change, deforestation, land changing, natural disasters, pollution, and changes in animal habitat. The COVID-19 pandemic, which occurred in 2019, serves as an example of the need for global preparedness in facing EIDs in the future. Early detection, timely surveillance, data sharing, and rapid responses are important to prevent the massive impact of EIDs.
