Indigenous Marine Actinobacteria

摘要

Indigenous constitute a highly diverse group of microorganisms inhabiting both coastal and deep-sea regions of the Indian Ocean. These gram-positive bacteria are notable for producing bioactive compounds with significant pharmaceutical and industrial potential. The distinctive conditions of the Indian marine environment, such as fluctuations in salinity, temperature, and pressure, have driven the development of unique metabolic pathways and secondary metabolites in these organisms. Recent research has emphasized the isolation and characterization of actinobacteria from sediments, sponges, coral reefs, and other marine habitats, leading to the discovery of new species and genera and broadening our understanding of microbial diversity in Indian waters. The bioactive molecules they produce exhibit strong antimicrobial, anticancer, and enzyme-inhibitory properties. Advancements in metabolomics, metagenomics, and genome mining have shed light on the biofuel potential of these organisms. New technologies such as synthetic biology, CRISPR–Cas genome editing, and artificial intelligence are transforming the identification and creation of new natural products. Moreover, Indian marine actinobacteria show promise in bioremediation and other biotechnological applications. This review highlights the potential indigenous actinobacteria as a valuable resource for natural product discovery and play an important role in maintaining marine ecosystem functions.
