What Is Discourse Studies?

This chapter introduces the field of Discourse Studies (DS), including the main tenets guiding DS approaches and some advantages of using these approaches in qualitative research on Forced Migration issues. Then, some main approaches of DS are described, namely: Conversation Analysis, Discursive Psychology, Narrative Analysis, Corpus-Assisted Discourse Studies (CADS), Critical Discourse Studies and Multimodal Discourse Studies. The chapter concludes by presenting an overview of how DS has been used to study Forced Migration.
