Laser Therapy for Periorbital Rejuvenation

Laser technologies offer effective non-surgical approaches to address early signs of aging in the periorbital area, such as fine lines, wrinkles, dark circles, and skin laxity. Commonly used lasers are categorized as ablative and non-ablative. Ablative lasers, such as the Er:YAG laser and the CO2 laser, remove layers of skin to promote the regeneration of healthier, more youthful tissue and stimulate deep collagen production, making them highly effective for treating deeper wrinkles and laxity. Non-ablative lasers, including infrared lasers, heat the deeper dermal layers without damaging the surface skin, offering a gentler approach with less downtime, which is ideal for milder aging signs. Other prominent technologies include Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), which targets pigmentation and vascular issues, and plasma devices that deliver controlled thermal energy to tighten skin and improve texture. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of common laser treatments for periorbital rejuvenation, including CO2 and non-ablative lasers, with an emphasis on their advantages, clinical indications, preparation, procedural steps, potential complications, and post-procedure care. It also includes a brief description of other device-based technologies such as IPL and plasma devices.
