Strategic Approaches for Transportation Sector Engagement in Voluntary Greenhouse Gas Reduction Mechanisms
摘要
Against the backdrop of persistently rising global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, carbon emissions trading mechanisms have gained increasing prominence as market-based instruments for emission reduction. Within this framework, voluntary greenhouse gas emission reduction mechanisms constitute an essential component. This paper reviews the current status of China’s transportation sector participation in voluntary GHG emission reduction mechanisms. It identifies key challenges, including insufficient industry coverage, a lack of comprehensive methodologies, weak data foundations, and inadequate market incentives for transportation-related voluntary emission reduction activities. Building on an analysis of the sector’s needs for engaging in these mechanisms, the paper proposes countermeasures and recommendations. These encompass enhancing methodologies and accounting systems, leveraging digital empowerment, and promoting international mutual recognition of rules to facilitate the transportation sector’s effective participation in voluntary GHG emission reduction efforts.
