Wireless Triggered Timing System Using Two-Way ESP- To-ESP Communication Protocol for Precise Sports Timing

Competitive sports like running, swimming, cycling and motorsports are often significantly affected by timing to determine success or failure. Modern development has been introduced to measure time without the interference of humans such that when using a traditional stopwatch, it is easily associated with human error. The timing gate is one of the modern developments that eliminates the involvement of human error in measuring time. Previous research has shown that timing gates require the user to be around the system to control it, which limits the flexibility and efficiency of the system. Hence, in this study, a wireless-triggered timing system is developed by integrating IR communications to start and reset the system. Additionally, this study integrates a two- way ESP-to-ESP communication enabling elapsed time to be transferred back to the control unit which portrayed efficient timing monitoring. The findings of this study validate the potential of this system through the applicability of the system towards real Amphibian Electric Vehicle competition which can further apply to other sports in the future by considering future improvements such as the incorporation of a data management system and powerful processing unit for various possibilities.
