Innovating Motor Creativity Assessment: A Conceptual Framework for a Home-Based Toolkit Empowering Parental Involvement

Early childhood is a critical period for the development of Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) and motor creativity, both of which lay the foundation for lifelong physical, cognitive, and emotional growth. However, most existing assessments of FMS and motor creativity require professional administration and are inaccessible to parents, particularly in under-resourced or rural environments. This conceptual paper focuses on exploring the potential of a home-based motor creativity assessment toolkit designed for parental use. Drawing on developmental and educational theories including Torrance’s framework for creative movement, Newell’s constraints model, and ecological perspectives on motor learning, the paper proposes a model linking parental awareness, environmental context (urban vs. rural), and children’s motor development outcomes. The toolkit aims to empower parents by enabling them to observe, support, and foster their child’s motor creativity in everyday settings. The paper discusses conceptual foundation, key features, and implementation considerations for such a tool. This framework sets the stage for future empirical studies and opens new pathways for inclusive, family-centered motor development support and nurturing of motor creativity at home.
