Introduction

This chapter systematically elaborates on the strategic significance and scientific issues that are related to the study of the Western Yunnan Tin Belt. As a key potential area for tin resources in China, the Tengchong–Lianghe region in Western Yunnan lies within the northern extension of the Southeast Asian Tin Belt and has a favorable tectonic–magmatic metallogenic setting. However, owing to its limited research depth and exploration precision, its resource potential remains underexplored. On the basis of a review of the research history in the region, four major scientific issues are identified: the lack of sufficient comprehensive studies on tin deposits nationwide, the lack of a systematic comparison among typical deposits, the weak prior analyses of regional metallogenic correlations, and lagging prospecting and evaluation efforts. To address these issues, a research framework focusing on metallogenic background analysis, the genesis of typical deposits, cross-regional comparisons, and mineral prospecting prediction is proposed, providing a scientific basis for advancing the metallogenic theory of the Western Yunnan Tin Belt and guiding exploration efforts.
