The electron gun, as a core component of the terahertz traveling-wave tube (TWT), is used to generate and emit high-energy electron beams. The quality of the electron beam significantly affects the performance of the TWT. Therefore, how to obtain high-quality electron beams is a critical issue in the design of TWT. In this paper, a pencil beam electron gun for 670 GHz TWT is designed and optimized. Simulation results show that the electron beam current is 26.2 mA and the electron beam filling ratio at the waist is 50% under the conditions of operating voltage 15 kV and radius of electron beam channel 0.04 mm. It is well formed and enters the high-frequency interaction channel smoothly.
