摘要

Water scarcity is one of the most pressing challenges faced by semi-arid regions worldwide. Remote sensing and GIS play an important role to identify water scarcity area. These areas, often characterized by low and erratic rainfall, high evaporation rates, and limited freshwater resources. This book presents an in-depth analysis of water scarcity issues and explores mitigation strategies through various case studies and methodologies. Key thematic parameters discussed include hydro-morphometric analysis, microplastics in freshwater ecosystems, land use/land cover assessment, and site suitability evaluation, among others. India is an agricultural country where most of the farmer depend upon natural rainfall. In this view, water scarcity severely impacts the agricultural productivity as well as the availability of drinking water for both humans and other living organisms. The main moto of this book is to understand the importance of water management, conservation planning and sustainable development, emphasizing their influence on human livelihoods and agricultural sustainability. Ultimately, the book aims to enhance understanding of how remote sensing and GIS can be effectively utilized as tools for promoting sustainable development and water resource management in the semi-arid regions facing water scarcity.
