Digital Health in Reproductive Rheumatology

Reproductive rheumatology addresses the complex interplay between autoimmune rheumatic diseases and reproductive health across the preconception, pregnancy, and postpartum periods. Clinical decision-making in this field requires careful balancing of disease control, medication safety, fertility considerations, and maternal–foetal outcomes, often in settings where evidence from high-quality studies is limited. Digital health technologies have emerged as valuable adjuncts to traditional care models, offering new opportunities for longitudinal monitoring, risk stratification, and patient-centred counselling. Tools such as telemedicine, mobile health applications, wearable sensors, artificial intelligence-based analytics, and real-world data platforms can support timely preconception counselling, remote disease activity assessment during pregnancy, and early detection of postpartum flares. Integration of these technologies into routine rheumatology workflows enables improved multidisciplinary coordination and enhanced individualized care, particularly in geographically diverse or resource-limited settings. However, successful implementation requires attention to interoperability, data quality, ethical governance, and preservation of human-centred care. This chapter reviews the role of digital health in reproductive rheumatology, focusing on clinically relevant applications, workflow integration, and practical considerations for rheumatologists, while highlighting future directions for safe and equitable adoption.
