Confucian Ethics and AI in Education: Guiding Ethical Innovation in Learning

This paper explores the intersection of Confucian philosophy and AI ethics in education, examining how traditional moral frameworks can guide the ethical development and use of AI-driven educational tools. As artificial intelligence transforms teaching and learning, it presents both opportunities such as personalized instruction and intelligent tutoring, as well as ethical challenges including bias, privacy concerns, and the erosion of human agency in decision-making. Drawing on Confucian principles such as ren (benevolence) and yi (righteousness), this paper proposes a framework for embedding moral values in AI-enhanced education, ensuring that technological innovation aligns with ethical responsibility and social cohesion. While the discussion applies broadly across educational contexts, it offers insights into how AI-driven learning can foster responsible and engaged students, including within higher education settings where ethical AI literacy and policy considerations are becoming increasingly important.
