Translation of Laws and Regulations: Standardization and Prospects
摘要
This chapter explores the standardization of translating Chinese laws and regulations through the lens of translation norm theory, examining deviations from established norms and the factors influencing translational consistency. It analyzes systemic challenges such as terminological inconsistency, structural ambiguity, and cross-jurisdictional conceptual gaps. The discussion proposes multi-level strategies for achieving standardization, including the development of authoritative terminology databases, the implementation of project-based quality-control mechanisms, and the integration of digital tools such as parallel corpora and AI-assisted translation systems. Finally, the chapter outlines future directions for legal translation as a strategic component of China’s engagement in global governance, emphasizing the role of standardized translations in enhancing the international credibility and communicative efficacy of Chinese legal discourse.
