摘要

The accurate measurement of radiation and the detailed investigation of its biological and physical effects necessitate a precise specification of the radiation field at any point of interest. The field of radiation dosimetry is particularly concerned with the methodologies for the quantitative determination of energy deposited in a specific medium directly or indirectly by ionizing radiations. To facilitate this, a systematic framework of quantities and units has been established by international bodies. This chapter delineates the descriptions of the most prevalent dosimetric quantities and their associated units. Moreover, it provides a foundational discussion of cavity theory, which is the theoretical basis for calculating the response of a radiation dosimeter placed within a medium, a cornerstone of practical dosimetric measurement.
