Study on the Utilization of Urban Rail Transit Rolling Stock Considering Cross-Line Operation

Cross-line operation serves as a crucial organizational model within urban rail transit networks, introducing greater complexity to rolling stock utilization. A well-designed rolling stock utilization alleviates passenger transfer burdens, enhances operational efficiency and ensures service profitability. This study examines cross-line operating urban rail transit lines, considering scenarios with multiple depots. It analyzes cross-line resource sharing strategies for rolling stock, identifies prerequisites for seamless train service connections, and establishes a rolling stock sharing model for cross-line operations. This model aims to minimize rolling stock utilization costs and achieve balanced resource allocation. A tabu search algorithm is designed to solve the model based on its characteristics. Using two urban rail transit lines as a case study, the analysis examines the impact of operational equalization, and rolling stock operation methods. Results indicate that incorporating operational equalization considerations in the objective function holds practical significance, reducing the difference between maximum and minimum rolling stock running times in transfer schemes by approximately 2.82%. Employing rolling stock mixed operations significantly contributes to cost savings, reducing operational rolling stock by 10 trainsets and lowering rolling stock return/leave costs by 11.80%.
