摘要

Arid and semi-arid environments present significant agricultural challenges, including limited water resources, poor soil structure, and nutrient deficiencies. Nanomaterials, with their unique physicochemical properties, offer innovative solutions to address these constraints. This chapter explores the potential of nanomaterials for enhancing soil quality in arid regions. It examines hydrophilic nanomaterials for boosting water retention, nanofertilizers for targeted and efficient nutrient delivery, and nanomaterials for improving soil aggregation. Laboratory studies demonstrate how nanomaterials alter soil properties and promote plant growth under simulated arid conditions. Field trials highlight yield improvements and sustainability benefits compared to traditional practices. This chapter emphasizes the importance of long-term monitoring of soil quality indicators and the need for research tailored to the unique characteristics of arid environments. Ultimately, responsible development and integration of suitable nanomaterials hold promise for transforming agriculture within these vulnerable ecosystems.
