摘要

Nanotechnology is increasingly recognized as a transformative tool in soil science, offering precise and sustainable solutions for enhancing soil fertility, nutrient management, and plant productivity. Engineered nanoparticles, due to their high surface-area-to-volume ratio, reactivity, and targeted delivery potential, facilitate improved nutrient use efficiency, effective pest and disease management, and enhanced plant growth under both optimal and stress conditions. In soil systems, nanomaterials such as nano-fertilizers, nano-pesticides, and nano-encapsulated agrochemicals reduce nutrient losses through leaching and volatilization, improve rhizospheric interactions, and enhance nutrient bioavailability. Moreover, green and biologically synthesized nanoparticles are gaining prominence for their environmental compatibility and reduced ecotoxicity. This chapter explores the fundamental properties of nanoparticles, their synthesis techniques, uptake pathways in plants, and their physiological and biochemical effects—both beneficial and adverse—while emphasizing their evolving role in sustainable soil and crop management. A balanced evaluation of their agronomic utility and ecological risks underscores the need for responsible nanotechnology integration in soil-based agricultural systems.
